Vice President for Academic Affairs

This academic leader will embrace and clearly articulate the mission and vision of Trine University while providing leadership and strategic visionary thinking with an entrepreneurial spirit to the academic community.
The Vice President for Academic Affairs reports to the President and provides leadership for the academic programs of the University. The senior administrator inspires faculty and staff to provide the highest quality of instruction, programs, and service and ensures that academic and relevant co-curricular activities execute the mission and strategic plan of the University.
Qualifications
An earned doctorate, successful classroom, and academic and administrative leadership experience are required. The Vice President will fulfill and advance the mission of the University through modeling the values and demonstrating personal and professional integrity and outstanding leadership. An advocate for the University and its academic programs, the Vice President will be involved on the campus and in the local community and region.
The Vice President will be a collaborative leader who listens and considers multiple viewpoints, while being decisive and confident in making decision. Experience in performing program and personnel assessments and directing the future of the institution will be critical.
As a skilled communicator, the academic leader will understand and value new opportunities as well as service learning, community-based and student-faculty research, and academic scholarship. The Vice President will be knowledgeable of instructional technology and higher education financial processes and budgeting and fund raising. He/she will also engage and understand the value of experiential learning, the role of academics in the greater community and adult and online programs.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties
The Vice President serves as the administrative officer responsible for academic programs. In this role, the senior administrator collaborates with faculty, staff, the school deans, as well as other Cabinet members to expand deep and integrative learning.
Additionally, the Vice President:
- Leads the faculty in developing and improving the educational programs and policies of the University, including, but not limited to, curricular offerings, pedagogical methods, supportive co-curricular opportunities, graduation requirements, and effective processes of assessment, including assessment of institutional needs.
- Monitors the academic progress of students, the delivery of instruction, and the functions of academic departments.
- Develops and supports plans for the integrated use of technology in the classroom.
- Leads and supports the integrity and effectiveness of online and adult opportunities throughout the state and region.
- Guides the process to recruit faculty who promise excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
- Ensures the integrity and effectiveness of faculty evaluation, on the basis of which the Vice President for Academic Affairs recommends to the President successful candidates for promotion.
- Plans, identifies, and creates opportunities for faculty development.
- Plans, identifies, seeks, and secures external funding to support the educational mission of the University.
- Maintains the Faculty Handbook and recommends policies ensuring the general welfare of the academic program and the faculty to the President, and through the President to the Board of Trustees.
- Hires, supervises, directs the work of, and evaluates the Department Chairs, School Deans, faculty, and administrative assistant for academic affairs. The Vice President designates and recruits Deans to provide necessary support to the University’s academic schools.
- Collaborates with colleagues to exploit new developments in pedagogy that will enhance student learning and to identify opportunities to develop new academic programs that will advance the institution and serve its mission.
- Serves and chairs University committees and advisory groups as assigned, including serving on the Cabinet to furnish information and advice about the academic program, collaborating with Cabinet colleagues in recommending appropriate college policies, procedures, and practices.
- Be active and engaged in the community and region promoting Trine University and its resources, building partnerships and opportunities related to community growth, economic development and leadership.
- Supports and engages in meaningful student and faculty research to serve the greater community and region
