Founding Director

Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree Program

Trine University seeks a Founding Director for its new Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree program.  Recently approved by the Board of Trustees, the program will provide instruction for the DPT degree and support the University’s greater mission of preparing students to succeed, lead, and serve.

The DPT degree program will be located in Fort Wayne, Indiana, less than an hour’s drive from the University’s main campus in Angola.  The University plans to enroll its first class of 40 physical therapy students in fall 2013.  The director will report to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and serve on Graduate Council.

About 400,000 people make their home in the Fort Wayne metropolitan area, the cultural, educational and commercial hub of northeast Indiana. Growing health care and life sciences sectors anchor the regional economy and offer a diverse range of experiential placements for students. Employees and students can enjoy Fort Wayne’s vibrant mix of entertainment and recreation venues, professional sports teams, affordable housing and easy access to major cities.

Initial responsibilities include recruiting and hiring a leadership team and faculty; leading the CAPTE accreditation process, beginning with application for pre-candidate status; designing a practice-oriented curriculum; overseeing renovation of facilities for the physical therapy program; fund raising; and establishing collaborative relationships, including sites for experiential placements, within the healthcare community of Fort Wayne and the region.

Candidates must possess a PhD, and a degree in physical therapy is required.  A record of exceptional physical therapy-related leadership, teaching, scholarship and service is expected.  Preference will be given to candidates experienced with CAPTE accreditation standards and processes.  The successful candidate will have vision to shape and lead a new Department of Physical Therapy, strong communication, administrative and organizational skills, and a commitment to fund raising.  The position offers a competitive salary and benefits.

A starting date in early 2012 is desired.   Please send nominations and/or applications to:
