Study Abroad
Want to Explore The World?
Do you plan to take on the world? We’ll put you in it. Learning is about doing and seeing at Trine. Imagine combining your studies with firsthand experiences—studying the Cold War in Berlin, or art and architecture in Paris.
To truly excel, you’ll need a broad perspective, the kind you get from immersing yourself in experiences and exploration. As a student traveling abroad, you’ll learn what it means to be a global citizen. You’ll prepare to work with international companies, diverse people, and a global economy.
Pick your program
Trine offers three separate study abroad programs. You can enroll in semester, yearlong, or summer programs through International Studies Abroad, a program affiliated with numerous colleges and universities, or with our partner universities, located in four different cities. Trine’s Honors Humanities Seminar takes students abroad for a week during spring break.
International Studies Abroad
Trine’s direct affiliation with International Studies Abroad (ISA) can place you in affordable semester, yearlong, and summer programs in Spain, Italy, France, England, Mexico, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Chile, Peru, and Australia. For details, costs, and other information, check out the ISA Web site.
Students typically study abroad for one semester, either the second semester of sophomore year or first semester of junior year, or during the summer between sophomore and junior years or junior and senior years.
Partner universities abroad
Trine partners with several universities. Students can choose from study programs located in:
- Rome, Italy at John Cabot University
- Paris, France at the American University of Paris
- Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria at the American University of Bulgaria
- Tegucigalpa, Honduras at Universidad José Cecilio del Valle
Check out these schools' Web sites for application and deadline details.
Spring break
Humanities Honors Seminar, a one-credit-hour spring course, focuses on a special topic relating to an overseas location. Students then travel there for a weeklong trip over our spring break. The Spring 2008 topic was Vienna: Haydn and the Habsburgs. Recent topics included:
- Berlin, WWII, and the Cold War
- Normandy and Paris: D-Day, Art, and Architecture

Students who want a longer time period overseas can choose to participate for a semester, an academic year, or a summer session. Most students opt for one semester (typically second semester of sophomore year or first semester of junior year) or a summer session (typically the summer between sophomore and junior years or between junior and senior years).
It is critical that you begin planning early in your academic career particularly if your major has a fairly rigid list of courses offered in a certain sequence. Deciding Where and When, provides several searchable websites by program, country, and provider to help you find suitable opportunities. Sites are annotated regarding majors, countries, etc. Some sites offer the option of internships overseas.
Most programs require that the student’s cumulative grade point average be at least 2.5 and some require at least 3.0.
