Civil engineering is an exciting and challenging field that has been critical in shaping our nation’s history, helping society tackle ever-increasing demands on infrastructure and security. Throughout the 20th century, engineers revolutionized
industry and created a vast infrastructure for this country – from public utility
systems, schools and government facilities to transportation systems such as interstate highways and airports. Today, our faculty strive to provide the best education so Trine civil engineering graduates can compete in a global workforce
and make lasting impacts on the world around them.
The university can structure individual programs for students to coincide with their specific area of interest in the civil engineering field. Trine’s curriculum includes courses in environmental, geotechnical, hydraulic, transportation and structural engineering. In addition, Trine offers minors in environmental and structural engineering.
Trine now also offers five-year Master of Engineering degrees in civil, mechanical and biomedical engineering, so students can opt for a five-year master’s program in civil engineering.
Trine is committed to providing students with a first-class civil engineering education. With a degree from Trine, students will be well prepared to make their marks in this rewarding field. They will be part of a profession that

Civil engineering students are reaping the benefits of a major $5 million renovation
of Fawick Hall, which is the home to all of Trine’s engineering programs. Donations to Trine’s Reiners Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering also funded a new surveying laboratory. The Reiners Endowment Fund provided for a new Hydraulics and Soil Mechanics Laboratory. In addition, the department has exclusive privileges to classrooms, laboratories and computer centers.
With a dedicated and highly motivated faculty, Trine civil engineering students
enjoy small classes and a nearly 100 percent job placement rate after graduation. Students will never be taught by graduate assistants as classes are taught by faculty members whose first love is working with and teaching students. Students will also never be taught in large auditoriums at Trine. The largest classrooms on campus are for a maximum of 30 students.
