Student Spotlight: Abigail Mitchell
New Paris, Indiana

B.S. degrees in mechanical engineering and mathematics

In 2003 Ms. Mitchell graduated with a 4.00 GPA and received the R.B. Stewart award, the University’s highest academic award given annually at commencement. She is working on two Ph.D.'s at University of Notre Dame, one in mechanical engineering, the other in mathematics.

She was recently awarded a National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship. Only 900 of these distinguished fellowships are awarded annually for students in all engineering, physical, and social science disciplines in the United States.

Ms. Mitchell’s research focus at Notre Dame includes robotic manipulators (mechanical engineering) and rook polynomials (mathematics).
