The Pre-Medical Professional Track, a more flexible replacement for the Pre-Medical Major at Trine University, has been instituted. Students can now pursue any major and still aspire to medical school if they take the courses that help prepare them for the MCAT and maintain at least a B+ average in their coursework. Having said that, majors selected from the Science Department (Forensic Science, Chemistry, and Biology) provide the clearest path to success on the MCAT.
To help students succeed and to simplify the medical school application procedure, we have established a Pre-Medical Professional Advisory Board consisting of professors from across the campus. The board is chaired by the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences and includes the Chair of the Science Department. One of the first acts of the board was to host a welcome reception for the twenty-two current students in the Pre-Medical track. The board members are looking forward to overseeing the academic and personal development of our Pre-Medical students.
Our former Pre-Medical major has had 92% of its graduates go on to graduate studies in health related disciplines since the year 2000. Those that did not attend medical school are enrolled or have completed programs in osteopathic/allopathic medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, nursing, chiropractic medicine, and physical and occupational therapy, among other graduate programs. We look forward to even greater success with the current and future students enrolled in the Pre-Medical Professional Track.
