TSU excelled during its first year as a full-status member of the NCAA Division III Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, advancing a team to its first NCAA regional and claiming an individual national championship. The Thunder softball team won their conference title for the second consecutive year, traveling to Rock Island, Ill. to compete in the regional at Augustana College.

TSU’s Russell Dill captured the NCAA Division III national title in the 400-meter hurdles with a record-setting performance, completing the race in 51.30 and setting a new J.J. Keller Field and Tri-State school record.
