Hoosier Boys State heading for Trine

Hoosier Boys State

The Trine University community is preparing for an influx of 600 high school junior boys June 13–20, when the landmark American Legion education program, Boys State, relocates to Angola after 39 years at Indiana State University in Terre Haute.

The American Legion founded the Indiana program in 1937 to offer high school junior boys a hands–on experience in state and local politics and government. Boys State delegates will learn about the organization and function of political activities in a two–party election system during the weeklong stay.

The program historically wields tremendous influence over the young delegates. Legislators who attended Boys State include Gov. Mitch Daniels, former Gov. Frank O′Bannon, Sen. Richard Lugar and former Sen. Birch Bayh.
