Trine’s new mascot taking campus by Storm

Trine's new mascot - Storm

Whatever the weather, turbulent conditions will always surround Trine University’s new mascot.

That′s because Storm, Trine′s new tiger mascot, will involve fans in a whirlwind of antics, attitudes, props, sound bites, and other spirit–builders during university athletic contests beginning this fall.

But he didn’t just show up, like a batch of unpredictable spring showers. A committee of Trine representatives from the offices of Student Life, Brand & Integrated Marketing and Athletics developed two prototypes–a superhero figure and the tiger–by researching a variety of mascot types.

An artist developed the figures, and full–size stand–ups of both characters were commissioned to give students visual concepts. Students viewed the stand–up characters during two days of voting in the University Center. In the end, the tiger won out. Students also had their say with their mascot′s name, choosing "Storm" from about 25 student submissions.

But the mascot isn′t just an accessory for the athletic teams – it′s a full–scale program, complete with a budget and student scholarship. "You will see it everywhere, doing antics to entertain and energize the crowd," said Randy White, Dean of Student Life. "School spirit is higher than ever, and we are looking forward to another exciting year in Trine athletics."
