Trine celebration

dOver 700 community members and friends attended a celebration commemorating our name change to Trine University on Aug. 1. Many activities punctuated the celebration, beginning at 11:30 a.m. with the unveiling of the Trine University entrance signs at the main boulevard entrance.

Trine hosting first job fair

dTrine University will be a connection point for talented students and businesses seeking the best employees at the first annual Trine University Career & Internship Fair Friday, Oct. 24 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the University Center. Students can connect with business representatives at company displays and throughout the mall area. Business executives can arrange to interview promising candidates that day after the fair. The registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 10. Those interested can register at www.TrineCareers.org for the 60 available spaces.


Summer camps grow

dTrine summer camps experienced growth and a lot of enthusiasm from children interested in summer learning programs. LEGO Camp at Trine North in Angola nearly doubled the number of campers after its debut last year.

Admission news

dTrine University will see increased enrollment at its main and branch campuses, as well as a larger resident student population when classes begin on Aug. 26 for the main campus and Sept. 2 for the School of Professional Studies sites. While the anticipated new main campus class of 1,340 students, the highest in 31 years, excites Trine’s Vice President for Enrollment Management Scott Goplin, other enrollment numbers are cause for celebration as well. His office projects approximately 930 students, a 14.4 increase over last year’s 810, will live on the Trine campus this fall. Overall Trine University enrollment will be in the 1,725-1,750 range, including branch campuses.


Fieldhouse and recreation center construction begins

dConstruction is underway for a new fieldhouse and recreation center to include a 200-meter indoor track, tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts and batting cages. The fieldhouse will connect with Hershey Hall, and will benefit all Trine students.

Fall Frenzy visit day will offer presentations and panels by faculty, staff, and students, plus a campus tour and Trine sporting event to introduce prospective students to the Trine experience.

Homecoming weekend will bring alumni together for the Touchstone Dinner, Hall of Fame and alumni awards, and ever-popular football game. Be part of the fun!

Family Weekend will gather parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents, aunts and uncles on the Trine campus for a football game and other activities to see what university life is all about.

    dAlumni and friends will gather on the renovated Trine campus for homecoming festivities Sept. 26 and 27. The annual Touchstone Dinner honoring alumni donors and the class of 1958 reunion will headline activities on Friday. On Saturday, Ketner Sports Center will be the backdrop for the alumni and Hall of Fame awards and reunion pictures during the annual Homecoming Breakfast. The golf course apartments will be dedicated and student and alumni activities will take place all along Park Avenue. The football game against Franklin College will be a highlight.   • Alumni golfers support scholarships

    dAlthough they competed for low strokes, golfers in Trine University’s 18th annual Alumni & Friends Golf Outing met some high goals on Aug. 1—$52,000 in scholarships for deserving students. Traveling from as far away as Los Angeles, Calif., 188 players teed off in morning and afternoon flights for a chance at first place honors, with four hole-in-one chances at big prizes. Everyone left with prizes after dinner in Zollner Golf Course’s Witmer Clubhouse. Finishing with the lowest number of strokes to claim the day’s top spot was the Kappa Sigma team of Rob Klinefelter, Joe Ealy, Jeff Reinche, and Glen Kelly. The First Federal/ReMax/Krebs Appraisals team of Scott Gruner, Lance Krebs, Todd Stock, and John Stock placed second, while the Auburn Masonry team of Todd Stayer, Darrin Dickerhoof, Bret Henderson, and Todd McAfee claimed third.

  • New AD named

    dTri-State alumnus and former TSU trustee Jeff Posendek will take over as Trine University’s new athletic director this fall. Posendek earned a bachelor’s degree in business education at TSU in 1977, and then completed a master’s degree in educational administration at Cleveland State University. He served on the TSU Alumni Board of Governors and Board of Trustees for a combined 25 years, with two terms as president of the alumni board. His dedication earned him the university’s Distinguished Alumni Service Award in 2006. Posendek’s wife, Anne, also earned a TSU degree in 1977. He has spent the past 30 years as a teacher and administrator in secondary education, earning Ohio Assistant Principal of the Year honors in 2004. “I will continue my strong support of student-athletes and emphasize the importance of providing leadership, role models, and programs that develop their academic and athletic success,” Posendek said.
