2012 season in review
After a solid second place finish in the MIAA last fall, the Trine University men’s golf team has qualified to host one of the three rounds to be played to determine the MIAA representative at the NCAA Division III tournament in May. Trine had two golfers named to the All-MIAA Second Team in the fall for the second consecutive year. Junior Pat Wolcott and senior Max Niehans were honored for their season averages placing them in the top tier of the conference.
Coach SanFiacomo has a team comprised of veterans and rookies ready for action in the spring season, with only seniors, Max Niehans and Matt Warrener, junior Patrick Wolcott and sophomore Graham Bennett having considerable varsity experience. The top underclassmen who will contribute significantly include sophomore Nolan Eli along with freshmen Chris Broman and Brandon Snell. Dominic Choma, a transfer from Division II Saginaw Valley could also content to contribute to the team.
2011 Fall season in review
In the fall season, the Thunder finished runner-up for the conference championship for the second straight season. Trine had two golfers named to the All-MIAA Second Team for the second consecutive year. Junior Pat Wolcott and senior Max Niehans were honored for their season averages placing them in the top tier of the conference. Wolcott’s season score of 614 for an average of 76.7 tied him for seventh while Niehans score placed him tied for 11th on the season with a total score of 619 and an average of 77.4. The Thunder posted wins at the first MIAA Jamboree of the season at Albion and the final Jamboree at Adrian. The Thunder also took home the title at the Defiance College tournament. Pat Wolcott turned in the team’s best performance of the season as he garnered co-medalists honors at the MIAA Jamboree at Adrian. Max Niehans and Nick Ihrie also turned in top performances of the season placing second at the first MIAA Jamboree and the John Speiss Invitational respectively.
