The excitement in the women’s golf program is building towards the culmination of the NCAA Division III National Championship May 8-11.

The Thunder wrapped up the fall season with a sixth place finish in the MIAA standings. The ladies also won the John Speiss Invitational where Trine took home the top four spots including medalist honors by Leisha Beutler. The low round of the season was turned in by senior Amanda Mainstone carding an 83 on the Thunder’s home course during the first MIAA Jamboree.

Trine will play in five spring tournaments, including their own Trine Spring Classic that will take place on April 20. The Thunder will also travel to events at Adrian and Manchester. The ladies will also make a stopover in Las Vegas during spring break to play in tournaments before visiting South Dakota St.

Trine to Host 2012 Championship

INDIANAPOLIS - For the first-time in school history, Trine University will host an NCAA national championship event.

The NCAA announced today that Trine will host the 2012 Women’s Golf National Championship. The championship is tentatively scheduled for May 8-11 or May 9-12.

This will mark the sixth time overall the Thunder have hosted a national championship event. As an NAIA program, the Thunder hosted the 1987, 1990 and 1992 Men’s golf National Championships. Hershey Hall was the venue for the 1996 and 1997 Women’s Basketball Division II National Championships. Trine also hosted the Division III Midwest Wrestling Regional in 2009.
