Opportunity isn’t just a buzzword at Trine University. Students agree that Trine is a place where elements and people converge to create the experience of a lifetime.

Top Competitor
In class, on the field, and during his spare time in between, Adam Shiltz drives toward success. He began this pattern freshman year by earning a spot on the Dean’s List and has done so every semester since.

Academic success hasn’t stopped him from enjoying all aspects of college life. In 2008, he earned top recognition in baseball as Trine University’s Pitcher of the Year and First Team All MIAA. He ruled intramural ping-pong as the 2008 champion. But his favorite social activity is hanging out with his fraternity brothers.

“I like how close you become with your professors and classmates. At a small school like this, I think every professor has an impact on you. They not only want you to succeed, but excel in your courses. My technical communication professor didn’t stop at writing comments on every paper–he recorded his thoughts on a tape recorder for each student to use as advice for future papers. It just makes you think, ‘Wow what else could this guy do for me?’”

Recognizing Potential
Megan Callahan came to Trine as a future teacher. It was something she’d planned since her sophomore year of high school. But underneath her well-thought-out plans was another dream she could barely acknowledge—going to medical school.

“One afternoon, Professor Palmer and I were discussing school and my future, and I made the comment that if I could do/be anything I wanted, it would be to go to Med school to become an Oncologist. Professor Palmer looked at me and said, ‘Megan, you are 20 years old, you can go to Med school and become a doctor if that is what you really want to do.’ From that day on, the thought of medical school has been constantly stirring around in the back of my head. I'm still planning on getting my degree in secondary education, but knowing that there are options and people there to support and help me achieve my dreams is a great feeling that can't be replaced.”
Megan Callahan, ’10, secondary education major, Fremont, IN
