Performing ensembles
The Sound of Thunder Marching Band
The Sound of Thunder is a high energy performing ensemble designed to bring excitement and enthusiasm to Thunder football games and other special events and to offer the students of Trine University the opportunity to perform in a collegiate marching band with all of its spectacle and showmanship. The Sound of Thunder will do a blend of drum corps style drill as well as block band, show band, and squad movement drill. The Sound of Thunder marches with a drum corps style step and carriage and will feature color guard, field battery, and front ensemble.
Wind Ensemble
The Wind Ensemble is comprised of woodwind, brass, and percussion musicians. Its repertoire is selected from a wide variety of high quality literature for symphonic band and wind ensemble. Examples of the literature may include orchestral transcriptions, works written specifically for wind ensemble, lighter works such as movie music arrangements, and many more. The Wind Ensemble performs at concerts as well as at Trine University athletic events. The Wind Ensemble' members also perform at Trine University basketball games and other athletic events as the Trine University Pep Band.
Trine Chamber Orchestra
The Trine Chamber Orchestra is an ensemble consisting of violins, violas, 'celli, bass viols, and orchestral winds and percussion. It is open for all students, faculty, and community members. The music will be selected according to the experience of the members and will be of a wide variety. The Trine Chamber Orchestra will perform at concerts in campus venues such as the Ryan Concert Hall in the T. Furth Performing Arts Center, Fabiani Theatre, and Wells Theatre. It will also perform in off campus venues.
University Choir
The University Choir is open to all students and faculty at the university. It is a mixed ensemble with soprano, alto, tenor, and bass voicing. The University Choir offers opportunities for intermediate and advanced vocalists. Literature is selected which lifts people's hearts and spirits by incorporating a large diversity of music. The University Choir presents an annual Madrigal Dinner the Saturday before Thanksgiving and performs at concerts and special events around the area.
Trine Jazz/Show Choir
The Trine Jazz/Show Choir is for experienced vocal musicians with good skills at sight reading, part reading, movement, and vocal production. The Jazz/Show Choir will perform advanced music of all genres and members will be expected to have a higher degree of vocal ability and dedication. Entrance into the Jazz/Show is by audition.
Jazz Bands
The Trine Jazz Bands are open to all Trine University students and faculty. They utilize the Count Basie instrumentation of two alto saxophones, two tenor saxophones, one baritone saxophone, four trombones, four trumpets, and a rhythm section comprised of piano, guitar, trap set, bass, and vibes. The Jazz Bands perform on campus and in concert venues around the area. An extension of the Trine Jazz Bands is the Trine Combo. The combo performs music in a more free and improvised nature at various venues.
Percussion Ensemble
The Trine University Percussion Ensemble is made up of students interested in perfecting their percussion skills through ensemble work on Marimba, Xylophone, Orchestra Bells, Vibraphone, and a wide array of percussion instruments. The Percussion Ensemble performs in conjunction with the Wind Ensemble and in separate concerts featuring the Percussion Ensemble itself.
Brass Choir, Woodwind Ensemble
The Trine University Brass Choir and Woodwind Ensembles are available to students wishing to further their performance skills in chamber music and small ensemble literature. The Brass Choir and Woodwind Ensembles perform at concerts and at special events like the Honor’s Day ceremony and Commencement.
Winter Guard
A performance opportunity that is often neglected at the university level is Winter Guard. Indiana boasts one of the finest winter guard circuits in the United States. Trine University is proud to offer winter guard as an extra-curricular opportunity for those students who are interested in continuing and improving their skills in dance, flag, rifle, saber, and other equipment. The Trine Winter Guard will perform at basketball games, and other special events. Formation of the Winter Guard depends on student interest.
