HYPNOTIC INTOXICATION
Friday, September 16, 2011 @ 7:00 pm
What is Hypnotic Intoxication? Hypnotic Intoxication by Keith Karkut is a two-part program. The first is a discussion about the powers that alcohol and addictive drugs can play in a person’s life. The second, and the highlight of the presentation, is an interactive activity demonstrating, through hypnosis, what really happens in severe alcohol situations.
KEITH ends his presentation by closing with a powerful, motivational message that will allow students to realize who they really are and what their future holds for them, and how to set their destiny.
The reason that this program is so successful is it allows students at the college level to experience an educational session in an entertaining way. Students will enjoy the subject, and won't even realize they are learning an important issue that will affect their lives and everyone around them.

What is QPR? QPR is an emergency mental health intervention for suicidal persons. Meaning “Question, Persuade, and Refer”, QPR is 3 steps that anyone can be trained in to help save a life from suicide. After going through this “Gatekeeper” course, you will be able to recognize a crisis and the warning signs that someone may be thinking about suicide, as well as learn how to offer hope and how to get help and save a life. QPR is like CPR in that it is part of a “Chain of Survival.” The Chain of Survival elements include: Early recognition of suicide warning signs, Early QPR, Early intervention and referral, and early professional assessment and treatment.
Why QPR? “According to a study by the Centers for Disease Control published in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology in 1995, 10% of college students admitted to having suicidal thoughts during the 12 months preceding the survey….7% said they had made a suicide plan, 2% had attempted suicide at least once, and .4% had made a suicide attempt that required medical attention.” Suicide is one of the leading causes of death among the U.S. college-aged population. QPR will give a person the training to help individuals who may be contemplating suicide. Each student who successfully completes this course will gain a Certificate from the QPR Institute.

Yoga
Thursday December 1st @ 8:00 pm & Thursday December 8th @ 8:00 pm
What is yoga and what are the benefits? Yoga is a combination of physical poses and breathing and meditation techniques. The wellness benefits that come from yoga touch mind and body – not only is yoga relaxing, but it also helps develop your flexibility, strength, and balance. The emphasized breathing that comes with yoga often helps lung capacity and this deepening and lengthening of breath can stimulate the relaxation response. The specific meditation techniques that yoga uses helps quiet the mind, relieving the mind of stress in the process. Yoga poses safely stretch muscles and release built up lactic acid that causes muscle stiffness, tension, pain, and fatigue. “In one study, participants had up to 35% improvement in flexibility after only eight weeks of yoga.” Yoga can also build strength and increase endurance. Even the less vigorous styles can build strength, particularly in the upper-body.
What will I learn? Yoga sessions will teach poses, breathing, and meditation techniques that will stretch the body and relax the mind.
