Cisco Ortiz

A Passion for Criminal Justice and the Community

B.S., Trine University; M.S., Indiana Wesleyan University

I grew up in Fort Wayne, Ind., and attended and played football at the United States Air Force Academy from 1993 to 1996.  A football injury led to me accepting an honorable discharge and allowed me to transfer to Tri-State University (Trine), where I earned my Bachelor of Science in criminal justice in 1999.   I entered the arena of adult and juvenile probation field/supervisory work and received my Master of Science in management from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2007.

Throughout my tenure in various courts systems, I enjoyed working with at-risk youthful offenders, adult offenders, field team assignments and supervisory positions. In 2011, I was appointed commander of Steuben County Jail where I also became an instructor for the Indiana Sheriff’s Association. I provide instruction as part of the advanced jail officer training offered to jail supervisors and officers across Indiana. I left the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office in August 2015 and joined the criminal justice team at Trine for a career of full-time teaching.

I serve my community as a member of city council, to which I was elected in 2007. I am also the regional commissioner of the local American Youth Soccer Organization and I enjoy coaching two of my three children on their soccer teams. I have been married to my beautiful wife, Maggie, since 2001 and we look forward to supporting Trine athletic teams at as many home events (and some away) as possible.  Go, Thunder!
