Michigan native introduces international students to America, Trine
M.A. TESOL - Michigan State University
I grew up a mile from Lake Michigan in the southwest corner of Michigan and earned two degrees in Michigan. I studied history at Calvin College in Grand Rapids where I graduated in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in history. Upon graduation, I decided to do some travelling and moved to Mexico for seven months, where I became an instructor of English as a Second Language (ESL) for the first time.
A few years later, I graduated in 2004 with a Master of Arts in TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Michigan State University. During my time as an ESL instructor, I've taught students from countries on every continent and learned so much from their cultures and personalities.
My wife and I moved to South Korea in 2006 and returned to the U.S. in 2012. I began working at Trine in summer 2012.
Living overseas, I really enjoyed meeting new people and learning about their cultures and sampling the local cuisine and attempting to replicate it in our home. These days, I enjoy getting to know my students and introducing them to America and to Trine University.
