I am an Indiana native. I taught at the University of Memphis for 25 years. I taught at Tri-State University, now Trine University, serving as department chair and designing new programs in sport management, health promotion and exercise science. I have also taught at Albion College.

I have B.S. degree from Albion College and a M.S. from Eastern Michigan University. I hold two doctorates: one from Indiana University and another from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

I have served as president of a national organization and two state and two district organizations in Tennessee and Indiana, and have served on innumerable professional boards and committees at the national district, and state level. I have authored and coauthored over 85 articles and seven textbooks with over 26 editions of these books. During my career I have made more than 150 presentations at state, district, national, and international organizations. I have received from each institution which I have taught, distinguished teaching awards and have received the highest recognition from several professional organizations for Service and Scholarly activity. I am a life member of the Indiana and Tennessee AHPERD and AAHPERD.

I live in Fremont with my wife Susan, who also teaches at Trine.
