Former semi–pro bowler turned pro communicator.
B.A. University of Minnesota; A.M. University of Illinois; Ph.D. Southern Illinois University
I am a former college debater/coach with expertise in persuasion and public relations, conflict management, listening and science communication. I have taught more than 50 different undergraduate and graduate courses at 10 universities, and I have been a political campaign planner, a speech writer and a communication consultant and trainer. I am chair of the Public Relations Division of the Central States Communication Association, a reviewer for four professional communication divisions, a recipient of national and regional communication research awards, and a former faculty president and department chair.
I love hiking and fast walking—at least five miles each summer morning around sunrise. I paid for college with winnings as a semi–pro bowler (a 206 average by age 18), and I am a skilled tournament chess player and gourmet cook.
