Self-declared 'bookoholic' eager to be a part of Trine community
B.S. , M.S. - Indiana University (through Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne)
Anyone who knows me well knows I am a "children's book-o-holic"! I have a penchant for children's literature. I have a collection of children's trade books that was well over one thousand at last count.
Teaching students to read has always been my passion. To me, there's nothing quite like the job of reading to students, and teaching how powerful words are in our writing. And I have the timeless works of Mem Fox, Eric Carle, Dr. Seuss, Judith Viorst, Cynthia Rylant, R.J. Palacio, and so many more to help me pass that joy and power on the the next generation of readers. I believe that art, the words, and the deep messages that children's literature bring into the world can be surprisingly therapeutic to readers of all ages. Each day that I introduce a new title in my reading methods or children's literature classes, I hope to inspire Trine students to use books as a means to not only teach, but to help the next generation of readers travel and understand the world around us.
I was born and raised on a farm in Richmond, Indiana, where I graduated from a small class of students, in the rural area of Wayne County. After graduating from high school, I attended Vincennes University, earning an associate degree in education. I then relocated north, continuing my course of study at IPFW, achieving both my bachelor and master degrees.
After graduation, I was kept busy in Fort Wayne Community Schools. Not only did I serve as a classroom teacher, I was also an instructional coach and a reading intervention specialist. My husband, Andy and I currently reside in Fort Wayne with Wrigley, our Welsh corgi. I enjoy trips to beautiful downtown Chicago to visit my son.
I look forward to being a part of the Trine family as family is important to me.
