B.S. Ball State University; M.S. Indiana University
I came to Trine University in 2007 to initiate the music program. Since then, our program has become a music department offering a major in music and our pep band has become a wind ensemble, marching band, two jazz bands, two choirs, orchestra and various small ensembles. I have the pleasure of directing the Trine Wind Ensemble, Sound of Thunder Marching Band and the Trine Chamber Orchestra.
Before coming to Trine University, I taught in public schools in Indiana and Illinois for 20 years where I established award-winning marching, concert and jazz bands. I believe my ensembles have been successful because I have helped the musicians bring out the life and emotion in the music and themselves. In addition to my duties as Chair of the Department of Music and Director of Instrumental Music, I serve as chairman of the Furth Center Advisory Board.
A native of rural central Indiana, in my youth I raced horses in gymkhana events, studied acting, ball room dancing, judo and foil fencing. I currently enjoy researching my Scottish heritage, performing Celtic music, playing jazz and bluegrass, vintage motorcycle road racing, civil war reenacting, sailing, camping and hiking. My wife, Linda, and I have two children.
