Kathy′s favorite pastime is teaching. A close second is traveling.

B.A. Elementary Education/English, University of Northern Colorado; M.S. Education, Indiana University

After almost 30 years of teaching in public schools (K–12), I joined the faculty of the Franks School of Education at Trine University in 2004. My background includes many years spent as an educator of children in public schools in Colorado, Texas, California, Missouri and Indiana.

During four years as the originator and lead teacher in a one–room school for children in kindergarten through 12th grade at a children′s shelter, I experienced the importance of assessing the needs of each child and meeting those needs through differentiated instruction. Integrating literacy across the curriculum and innovations in early childhood education are two of my professional interests.

Teaching is more than my job. It is my life′s work! My goal is to help future educators realize the impact that they can have on our world. My husband, Don, chairs the Department of Accounting in the Ketner School of Business here at Trine.

We like to travel during our shared vacations. This summer we spent 10 days in Japan, and we took a 5,000–mile road trip in the U.S. Don and I have two married sons and three grandchildren. We all enjoy water slides, hiking, reading and photography.
