Music man Mark Kays directs the sweet sounds around campus.B.S. Ball State University; M.S. Indiana University As director of music at Trine University since the music program′s inception in 2007, I direct the Marching Thunder, Wind Ensemble, Pep Band, Jazz Band and Chamber Orchestra. I began my career teaching in public schools in Indiana and Illinois, where I established award–winning marching, concert and jazz bands. In addition to my duties as director of music and instrumental music, I serve as chairman of the Furth Center Advisory Board. A native of rural central Indiana, in my youth I raced horses in gymkhana events, raced dirt bikes and still hold high school dash records from 1979. I also studied acting, ball room dancing, judo and foil fencing. I enjoy researching my Scottish heritage, performing Celtic music, playing jazz and bluegrass, vintage motorcycle road racing, Civil War reenacting, sailing, camping and hiking. My wife, Linda, and I have two children, Stephen and Kristen. |
