Free event to take place in ARC

American Legion Hoosier Boys State and Trine University will welcome a United States senator to campus next week.

Democratic Sen. Joe Donnelly will speak at 10 a.m. Friday, June 19 in the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Inc. Athletic and Recreation Center (ARC) on Trine University’s main campus. The senator will address Hoosier Boys State attendees, but the event is open to everyone. His speech will focus on the younger years of his political career and he will encourage young men to continue working hard to succeed in school and to reach life goals.

Donnelly served the 2nd Congressional District of Indiana in the House of Representatives for three terms beginning in 2006. He was elected to the Senate in 2012. Prior to serving in Congress, Sen. Donnelly spent time helping run a small business and practicing law.

Nearly 500 male youth will be in attendance this year at the seventh Hoosier Boys State to take place at Trine University. Boys State activities will begin June 14 and continue through June 20.

There is no cost to attend Donnelly’s speech at the ARC, 1001 Thunder Drive, Angola. Visitors may park in the ARC parking lot.
