Adventure Awaits no background

Family friendly event features entertainment, fashion show

NOV. 13 -- Explore diverse cultures and countries during Adventure Awaits – Study Abroad Experience at Trine University.

Staged during International Education Week, the free public event features a unique and entertaining learning experience appropriate for all ages.

“Adventure Awaits will be one of our most dynamic programs ever,” said Haseeb Kazi, Ph.D., director of the Study Abroad program at Trine. “Community members are encouraged to attend and participate in our first World Fashion Show to feature students and residents in traditional dress from various cultures.”

The adventure is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18 in Fabiani Theatre in the Rick L. and Vicki L. James University Center, 720 Thunder Drive. The event is sponsored by Study Abroad Club in cooperation with Multicultural Student Organization, International Community Services and Diversity Awareness Committee.

The highlights for the special evening include:

  • Earl D. Brooks II, Ph.D., Trine president, will welcome guests
  • International students will model traditional clothing during a World Fashion Show; community members are encouraged to wear traditional garb from their homelands and participate in the show.
  • Paresh Mishra, Ph.D., associate professor at IPFW, will perform a medley of Indian songs.
  • Golnaz Matthews, host of “The Goldie Show” and anchor for WFFT channel 55 in Fort Wayne, will make a special appearance.
  • International students studying at Trine will share their personal, cultural, academic and overall life experiences.
  • Trine students will share their experiences from studying abroad and why they decided to make international adventure part of their college career.
  • Trine students will perform musical selections.
  • Mersiha Alic, dean of the School of Professional Studies and a Bosnian native who studied in Germany and the U.S., will share insights.
  • Displays with photos and facts about countries represented by international students studying at Trine will be set up in the University Center outside of Fabiani Theatre. The Study Abroad Club will also host a display.
  • Door prizes courtesy of the Study Abroad office will be given.
