Home opener to feature special guest
along with post-game fireworks show
AUG. 31 -- Trine University will welcome a former professional athlete to campus this week as part of the “Beat Manchester Week” events.
Former Major League Baseball player Tino Martinez will deliver the game ball via helicopter to the Thunder’s first home game of the 2015-16 season. The Thunder will face off against Manchester at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3.
Martinez, who will participate in Trine’s Distinguished Speaker Series at 7 p.m. Wednesday Sept. 2, was an MLB player for the Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals and Tampa Bay Devil Rays from 1990 through 2005. He also helped lead the USA to a 5-3 win in the 1988 Summer Olympics and was twice named to the All-Star team.
Fans will also be treated to a fireworks display following Thursday’s opening-night football game. The display is expected to begin between 9:30 and 10 p.m. at the Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium.
Everyone is welcome to come cheer the Thunder to victory. Admission for home football games is $8 for adults and $3 for non-Trine students. Tickets are free for senior citizens 65 and older and for children younger than 12.
