Residents invited to audition Sept. 3 or 4
Trine University’s Drama Club is opening auditions to the public for its production of “A Doll’s House.”
Area residents may audition at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday or Thursday (Sept. 3 or 4) in Wells Theater located in Taylor Hall.
“During auditions, we will select short scenes from the play and ask people to come to stage to read something they may never have seen before,” said Tim Hopp, Ph.D., Drama Club advisor. “We are looking to see how an actor attempts to breathe life into the words.”
The show requires eight to 10 hours of rehearsal per week, with more hours dedicated to practice the week prior to the show’s opening. The show is scheduled for Nov. 6, 7 and 8.
Here is a synopsis of “A Doll’s House:” Nora has always been seen by her husband and others as a little skylark, a cheerful housewife and mother. However, she has her secrets too. Earlier, her husband was gravely ill and only a prolonged vacation to Italy could cure him, so Nora illegally borrowed money to save him. This secret has always been a pint of pride for her, but now, as her husband has become a successful bank manager, the man who made her loan blackmails Nora so that he can keep his job in the bank. At first, Nora is fearful of his blackmail, but she eventually begins to trust that her husband will care for her the same way she has cared for him. The resolution of the play originally caused riots in Europe because of Nora’s response to her husband’s concerns.
