Trine forming orchestra
Community invited to join
Trine University has announced the creation of the Trine Philharmonic Orchestra, to be comprised of university and community musicians.
The orchestra, which will incorporate violins, violas, celli, basses and sometimes wind instruments, will meet one evening per week at the T. Furth Center for Performing Arts at 500 W. Maumee St., Angola, on the north side of U.S. 20 on the Trine University campus.
The ensemble is open to musicians from grade school through adults, and members will provide their own instruments. No auditions will be required for stringed instrument players, so even those who played years ago can contribute their talents to the orchestra, said Trine music director Mark Kays. Wind instrument players will audition for their parts when wind instruments are needed.
“It is never too late to open the case, brush off the dust, rosin up the bow and make some music,” professor Kays said. Those interested in joining the Trine Philharmonic Orchestra should contact Kays at kaysm@trine.edu, 260.665.8096 or 765.720.7537.
