Officer will present on drug user identification
April 5, 2010--Trine University’s Department of Criminal Justice, Psychology & Social Sciences will sponsor the presentation “Identifying the Drug User,” delivered by Steuben County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Tim Troyer, on Friday at 9 a.m. in Fabiani Theatre. The event is part of the department’s 13th annual American Criminal Justice Association Symposium, and is free and open to the public.
As an undercover officer with I.M.A.G.E. Drug Task Force, a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement program serving the four-county area of DeKalb, LaGrange, Noble and Steuben in northeast Indiana, Troyer has investigated crimes and enforced drug-related crime laws. His program will share valuable information gathered during his years as an undercover officer.
Employers, property owners, parents, grandparents and youths will benefit by learning of the dangers of drug use and commerce, the importance of open communication between parents and children on the subject of drugs and how to recognize the signs of drug use.
“Identification is the first step in addressing the great problem of drug abuse in our communities,” said Department of Criminal Justice, Psychology & Social Sciences chair Craig Laker. For more information about the program, contact Trine University at 260.665.4198.
