Trine board extends president's contract
Dr. Earl Brooks II could serve through 2021
May 14, 2010--Trine University’s board of trustees extended the contract of President Earl D. Brooks II through 2019 while setting future plans for the university during an annual spring meeting in May. The contract includes a two-year option, potentially extending Brooks’ term through 2021.
Dr. Brooks came to Tri-State, now Trine, in June 2000, leading the institution through a transformation characterized by enrollment growth, fund raising, the expansion of graduate programs and the revitalization and expansion of campus facilities.
Milestones passed during Brooks’ tenure include increasing institutional enrollment from 1,350 to 1,930, with over 2,000 students projected for this fall; increasing residential enrollment from 485 to 1,100 students; completing a $90 million first phase of the university’s Vision for the Future capital campaign and preparing for a $75 million phase two; establishing graduate programs in civil, mechanical and biomedical engineering and criminal justice, with a master of science in leadership in the near future; and directing $75 million into capital improvements, including seven apartment-style residence halls, the new University Center, which includes library, cafeteria, theater and technology center, the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center, the Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium now under construction and the renovation of Sniff Hall to the C.W. Sponsel Administration Center.
Trine Board of Trustees Chair Dr. Jerry Allen said the board has appreciated Dr. Brooks’ leadership during his tenure. “It is a pleasure to work with Dr. Earl Brooks as we collaborate to chart a course for Trine University’s future,” Allen said.
“I am flattered and honored by the confidence demonstrated by the board of trustees with this decision,” Dr. Brooks said. “I have great affection for this institution, and I have a great board to work with. I am excited to come to work each day, and look forward to expanding upon our vision for the future. This is no time for complacency.”
