Trine to host annual scholarship gala

Trine to host eighth annual scholarship gala

ANGOLA — Trine University will host its eighth annual Black and White Scholarship Gala Saturday, Feb. 12, at 6 p.m. in Ketner Sports Center.

The gala will feature a dinner, catered by Bon Appetit; a wine-tasting, hosted by Biaggi’s Restaurante Italiano; silent and live auctions; and entertainment by the Trine University Jazz Band. Featured auction items include a weeklong getaway at a Caribbean condominium in Roatan, Honduras, a vacation to the spacious and luxurious Ritz Carlton Tower Residences in Sarasota, Fla.,  and a racing package from the Michigan International Speedway.

More than 400 people attended the elegant event in 2010 and helped raise a record-breaking $165,000 for scholarships for students.

“Ninety-five percent of Trine students annually receive scholarships or financial aid,” said Earl D. Brooks II, president of Trine University. “Last year alone, we gave over $17 million in scholarships to those students. Money raised at this event will go directly to the scholarship fund.”

This year, event organizers are giving donors the opportunity to purchase textbook scholarships for students. The Metal Technologies Foundation has generously offered a $25,000 challenge grant and will match, dollar-for-dollar, up to 50 scholarships valued at $500 each. Metal Technologies chief executive officer Rick James and his wife, Vicki, spearheaded the initiative.

All are welcome to attend the event. Tickets cost $75 each, if purchased by Feb. 1. Formal attire is required. For more information, contact Trine University’s office of alumni and development at (260) 665-4114 or visit www.trine.edu/gala.
