Golf outing raises record-breaking $72,000 for student scholarships
ANGOLA, Ind. – More than 225 people were swinging for scholarships on the rolling fairways of Zollner Golf Course Aug. 5 at Trine University’s 21st annual Alumni and Friends Scholarship Golf Outing. Thanks to the support of multiple individuals and businesses, the university raised a record-breaking $72,000 for students. In addition, the event was support by guests who took part in festivities throughout the day, including a dinner and awards program in the evening.
The funds will support the university’s 2011-2012 scholarship program, which will channel $19 million into the university’s academic and need-based aid for students, many of whom graduated from high schools within a two-hour radius of our main campus.
The event was sponsored by Metal Technologies Inc. The company’s chief executive officer, Rick James, is a Tri-State University alumnus, engaged trustee and avid supporter of the university. His company frequently hires Trine graduates and offers a variety of internship and co-op opportunities for students.
Dinner, which was prepared by Bon Appetit Management Co., was sponsored by Rieke Packaging. The company’s president, Lynn A. Brooks, is an active member on Trine’s board of trustees.
Lunch was sponsored by trustee Jerry and Jorja Allen, Chuck and Rita Nedele, and Jerry and Karen Brown in memory of alumnus Ron Rose, who graduated from Tri-State College in 1949.
Other major sponsors included AMI Investment Management and Jim Ingledue Construction Inc.
“Your devotion to our students will pay dividends for a lifetime, in both our communities and businesses,” said Trine president Earl D. Brooks II, Ph.D. “I can’t thank you our supporters enough for making educational opportunities available to deserving students.”
The university will host its fourth annual Scholarship Golf Classic in Sarasota, Fla., at the Ritz Carlton Member’s Club on Jan. 26, 2012. For more information about participating, contact Gretchen Miller at millerg@trine.edu.
