Tour de Trine approaching
Trike race is new Homecoming event

Make way, Lance Armstrong. A champion of the three-wheeled cycle could emerge at the first annual Tour de Trine trike race on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 11 a.m. on Park Avenue on the Trine University campus in Angola. The event is part of Homecoming weekend festivities Friday, Sept. 26 and Saturday.
The relay race will feature four-person teams made up of Trine student organization members. Each team will be allowed a two-person pit crew to cheer their team on and refresh riders with water and energy bars. Each rider will complete two laps, creating an eight-lap competition. Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded to the top three teams.
An unlimited number of teams can participate in the time trials held during the official Homecoming Week for Trine students Sept. 22-27. Eight teams will move on from the trials to the race. The university’s Trine Cycling Club members will be referees and will co-sponsor the event with the Office of Student Life.
The Office of Student Life will keep the campus humming with activities all weekend. On Friday, the area around the field will be the site of an early evening pep rally honoring fall athletes and a bonfire with fireworks. A concert by Dave and Rae will follow at 9 p.m.
On Saturday, a tailgate luncheon in Whitney Commons will follow the Tour de Trine race, food vendors will line Park Street, music will play, and skydivers will land on Shive Field as excitement builds for the Homecoming game against Franklin College at 1 p.m. A banner contest will take place on Shive Field all day. For more information on student festivities, call the Office of Student Life at 260.665.4168.
Activities to entertain visiting alumni will also take place all weekend. A golf outing on Zollner Golf Course Friday from 1-4 p.m. will lead up to the honoring of alumni donors at the Touchstone reception and awards program in Ketner Sports Center that evening. An all-alumni reunion reception will take place in Witmer Clubhouse from 8-11:30 p.m.
Alumni awards will be presented during the Homecoming Breakfast in Whitney Commons at 8 a.m. Saturday, and the Golf Course Village apartments will be dedicated at 10 a.m. A ceremony recognizing the construction of a new athletic and recreation center will be held at 10:30 a.m. southeast of Hershey Hall.
