Trine raising cancer awareness
Event will conclude with panel discussion
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In recognition of the grave danger breast cancer poses to women, Trine University’s Library and Information Services, Academic Technology Department, and University Bookstore are co-sponsoring a cancer awareness outreach throughout the month as part of an effort by Community Outreach and Awareness Campaign Headliners (COACH).
Staff members of the Trine departments have selected books focusing on different aspects of coping with cancer, and the books are available for checkout at Sponsel Library and for purchase at the University Bookstore. The book selection includes “Sammy’s Mommy has Cancer,” “The Last Lecture,” “Bald in the Land of Big Hair,” and “Crazy Sexy Cancer Tips.”
To participate in the awareness event, register at http://trinecancerawarenessmonth.eventbrite.com/. Then check out or purchase one of the books, read it, and plan to attend a panel discussion led by local cancer educators and survivors on recurring themes in the books. The wrap-up panel will be Friday, Nov. 7 from 1-3 p.m. in the Center for Technology and Online Resources in Trine’s University Center.
Participants in the event will receive inspiring e-mails and other materials throughout the month.
