Middle College High School Program

Students talking with each other

At Trine University, we want to help your child achieve a lifetime of success. That’s why we began the Middle College program for high school students. It’s great for students seeking greater academic challenge because they can take courses at Trine while they’re still in high school.

Middle College Benefits
For very little money, high school students can accumulate college credit while earning credit toward high school graduation. This dual-credit program gives students a jump-start on college. Great candidates for the program include:

  • First generation college students
  • Skilled at-risk students
  • College-bound students
  • Public, private, and homeschooled students

Enrolling at Trine
Students must first pass their grade-appropriate Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress (ISTEP) test. The Middle College program is intended for high school juniors and seniors, though students can enroll as early as the summer following their sophomore year. Take a look at our program guidelines.

Classes
Your high school student will be taught by Trine University professors or fully-qualified adjunct professors. The classes are college-level courses, which means they offer advanced, challenging studies. Evening and online courses are available at Trine’s branch campuses. Students who take classes at the main campus will attend at least a half day of high school classes and a half day of Trine Middle College classes, though some students may enroll full-time at Trine.

Earning Credit
Students need to earn a grade of “C” or better to receive full college credit on a Trine University transcript. Credit can be applied toward a Trine degree or may be transferred to another university. (To learn about credit applicability or transferability, check with the Trine Registrar.) As an added benefit, students can simultaneously earn high school credit.

Low Cost
Expect to pay very little for Middle College courses. Our partnerships with school districts, foundations, and local businesses mean we can offer the courses for minimal fees. You’ll pay an initial registration fee of $25. The current maximum course cost is $100 per credit hour.
