Alumni Regional Event Updates

Many Tri-State and Trine alumni gathered with classmates and friends during April’s regionally scheduled lunch and dinner events. Each event was unique, but tales of living in the barracks and fun times of summers spent at Bledsoe’s beach on Lake James were shared at all. Many alumni told stories about Greek life, reminisced about professors, and talked about certain athletic teams, clubs and organizations in which they participated.  All seemed very thankful for the great educations they received.

The office of alumni and development thanks the following alumni and friends:

Jeff Hossler ’80, Don Poorman ’69, Dan Dobson ’63, Stuart Wiseley ’09, who hosted an event April 5 in Fort Myers, Fla.

Spring 2011

Generous Givers

Thank you to those alumni, parents, and friends who contributed to the 2011 Spring Phonathon. Many of you received calls from students asking for your support of the Annual Fund and Student Scholarship program. We were so thrilled with your generosity, as the Spring Phonathon raised nearly $175,000.

If we were unable to reach you, please consider giving to the Annual Fund today. The Annual Fund provides the resources to transform our students into future leaders, and helps cultivate our thriving campus community.

Your contribution will:

  • Provide scholarship dollars to deserving students
  • Support academic resources, cutting-edge technology and facility improvements
  • Demonstrate confidence in your alma mater. Alumni participation for the Annual Fund is a key factor in obtaining grants as many foundations look at the university’s total alumni giving percentage before giving awards.

Your gift is tax-deductible and every donation, no matter how large or small, helps us continue our mission and vision for this university, which has educated students for 126 years.

Malaysian Connection

Thanks to an alumnus, Trine University students are connecting with students at the Razak School of Engineering and Advanced Technology at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

Shaziman Abu-Mansor, a 1988 civil engineering graduate of Tri-State University, serves as the Minister Works in Malaysia. Due to his educational ties with the school, Trine officials were able to make a connection.

In 2010, members of the Malaysian Students′ Department Chicago visited campus to see Trine’s new facilities and to build relationships with faculty and students on campus.

In March, students from both UTM and Trine attended, via videoconference, lectures of mutual Interest. Jannen School of Arts and Sciences dean John Shannon, Ph.D., talked about what it means to be an effective speaker.

“We are working to bridge the gap and break down walls between cultures,” said Haseeb Kazi, Ph.D., chair of Trine’s study abroad program. “Our goal is to know them better and to let them know us better. We also want to open up new doors of cooperation and academic collaboration.”

Kazi hopes the program continues to grow and eventually expand into a study-abroad partnership.

“Engineering and technology are strong and growing fields in Asia. Currently, UTM is one of the top-ranking schools in the world,” Kazi said. “They are interested in our programs and trying to reach out to us on the global level.”
