Where's Zachary West?
After graduating from Tri-State University with a chemical engineering degree in 2001, Zachary West, Ph.D., spent a year working for his family’s apartment business in Bowling Green, Ohio. Then, he decided to pursue a graduate degree at the University of Dayton. After receiving his master’s degree in chemical engineering, the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI) hired him as a research engineer.
“I’ve been working in jet fuel characterization. Our research is sponsored by the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory, and I perform in-house research at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base,” West said. “The experience has been surreal. To top things off, I just graduated from UD with a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering this past December.”
West is grateful for the opportunities at Tri-State.
“The hands-on experience I received with analytical instrumentation, unit operations and laboratory work has helped me tremendously in my work as a researcher today,” West said.
West enjoyed chemical engineering department trips to factories and industry and AIChE conferences.
“In addition, the experiences and friendships I gained by being a member of the Delta Chi fraternity have endured and will continue throughout my life,” West said.
West stays busy with family life. He and his wife, Alicia, have two wonderful children, Aiden, 5, and Eleanor, 3.
“I also take time for myself by home brewing beer, volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America, and gardening (although, my kids seem to enjoy my gardening hobby just as much as I do).”
