Employer outreach coordinator David McDonald in the Office of Career Services is calling all Trine alumni in business leadership or ownership positions to consider joining 30–50 other alumni in an alumni mentor network.
McDonald is expanding the network this summer and will formally announce and implement it this fall. The alumni mentor network gives Trine alumni who are established in their fields an opportunity to share their expertise with students from their own university.
They will help students by answering their questions about degrees and jobs and providing them with job shadowing opportunities to give them an up–close view of the professions they are considering. Students will learn how to network with alumni constituents and receive information about different companies and how their degrees correlate with jobs.
One Trine student has already secured an interview that resulted in a job by working through the alumni mentor network. "Watch for an announcement this fall at trine.edu for the alumni and friends network site," McDonald said.
Meet Amanda Day (Heller), BSBA ′09. She is the digital media coordinator for Michigan International Speedway (MIS) in Brooklyn, Mich. She is responsible for all of their social networking sites and prepares all of the promotions for radio, print and television for North America and Canada. (Pictured fifth from right)
On race weekends, she helps with contest prizes, assists at the scoreboard and supports all public announcements, including the fan plaza radio show. Amanda can also be seen in pre–race ceremonies and Victory Lane. She also prepares the speedway′s newspaper, called The Inside Track.
Amanda said the highlight of her job is that she "meets many cool people!"
Over the last NASCAR race weekend on June 12 and 13, she met Adam Sandler and Kevin James, as well as Nicklas Lidstrom, captain of the Detroit Red Wings, and many, many NASCAR drivers.
Amanda loves what she is doing because she helps create lasting memories for every person, every time. Not only is that MIS′s mission statement, but it′s what she enjoys the most. "It′s very validating to hear from a fan after a race weekend and know that they had a great trip to our facility," she said.
"My Trine education prepared me in the fields of communication and marketing. The experiences I had as a student made me start out more confidently," she said. "I am fortunate to work with the best people in motor sports—hands down! We love what we do. We work hard, but we have fun doing it."
Amanda has fond memories of Trine. She and Garret Day, BSCE ′09, were married June 26. Congratulations!

We need your help and support for this year′s 2010–2011 Annual Fund!
What is the Annual Fund?
The Annual Fund provides much-needed funds that touch every facet of the institution. Trine’s Annual Fund is dependent on the partnership we have with the board of trustees, alumni, faculty and staff, parents of students and alumni, friends and businesses.
Giving to the Annual Fund:
- Provides scholarship dollars to deserving students
- Helps support academic resources, cutting-edge technology and facility improvements
- Demonstrates confidence in your alma mater. Alumni participation in the Annual Fund is a key factor in obtaining grants. Many foundations look at total alumni giving percentages before awarding grants or making contributions.
Why is the Annual Fund important?
Every private college has a gap between operating expenses and tuition income. Our Annual Fund bridges this gap by supporting the operating budget, since tuition revenues cover approximately three–fourths of the cost of educating a student at Trine.
Your gift is tax-deductible and every donation, no matter how large or small, helps us continue our mission and vision for this university, which has educated students for over 125 years.
We'd love to hear from you. Do you have a suggestion on what we should feature? Send comments to firstname.lastname@example.org
