Regional Mixers Success!

"Lots of fun!" was the feedback many shared about the alumni mix and mingle in Indianapolis on Sept. 10 at Dave & Buster′s. The event was well attended and included food, games and information on the campus from Trine President Earl Brooks II. Hosted by alums Jim Bullard, Scott Brown, Kristen and Greg Lopshire, Eric Brown and the Office of Alumni & Development, the successful event has led to plans to continue these gatherings and increase participation.

The Michiana Alumni Association event on Sept. 16 at Elcona Country Club in Bristol, Ind. included pizza and laughs, as alumni reminisced about the days of old and the current success Trine is experiencing. Alumni learned about campus happenings from Sarah Brown, Director of Alumni Relations and Events, and Alumni Board of Governors President, George Higginson, and about the new Athletic and Recreation Center (ARC), Zollner Stadium and athletic programs from Athletic Director Jeff Posendek. The evening closed with a presentation by Trine football Coach Matt Land, who gave guests some insight into the success of the football team, which went 10–0 in regular season play last year and is 4–1 this year.

Groundbreakings and Dedications Galore!

2-3 October 2009

Alumni viewed Trine′s new Athletic and Recreation Center (ARC) and its 200-meter Richard and Joan Gollnick indoor track during a dedication ceremony on homecoming Saturday. Gollnick coached track and field and he and his late wife were ardent supporters of the Tri-State track program for 30 years. He was presented with a portrait honoring his work with the track program, and a plaque and picture memorializing the facility as the Richard and Joan Gollnick Track were unveiled..

Trine President Earl D. Brooks II also announced a plan for the construction of the Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium, with new lockers, offices, weight room and 3,500 seats by July 1, 2010. Brooks said growing athletic programs necessitate the facility.

Brooks also dedicated Elliott Drive, the street to the golf course apartments, in honor of 11th university president Carl H. Elliott. Elliott presided from 1974-1984, and under his leadership, the name changed from Tri-State College to Tri-State University, and elementary education and computer science programs were established.
