Crossing the "T′s" on Etiquette

Around 70 Trine seniors, many of them engineering and business majors, took part in an etiquette dinner sponsored by the offices of career services, alumni and development, and student life the last week of January.

Students enjoyed a four–course dinner, donated by Bon Appetit and served in Witmer Clubhouse, to learn the ins and outs of dining etiquette and proper manners to employ during a business function. Local business leaders and alumni played host at each table, leading students through the meal courses, behavior and conversation.

Alumnus Ken Peterman of ITT and Jeffrey Dahms of Bon Appetit were guest speakers. Students found the speakers insightful and helpful, said Career Services Director Linda Bateman. Some students won gifts, including cuff links, earrings, portfolios and a $100 certificate to the restaurant Eddie Merlot′s in Fort Wayne. The next etiquette dinner will include a business networking experience, Bateman said.

Upcoming Events and Happenings

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Black History Month program
Friday, Feb. 19, 7 p.m., Fabiani Theatre
A special speaker, Trine University speakers and essayists and the Voices of United Youth Choir will celebrate Dr. King and his message. Free and open to the public.

Regional Science Fair
Saturday, March 20, Hershey Hall, all day
Regional students in grade school through high school will display their science projects, which will be judged for a chance to advance to national competition. The exhibit is open to the public.

International Night
Saturday, April 10, University Center, 5–10 p.m.
Trine's international students will host a global bazaar, with booths offering samples of foods and displays of clothing, arts, pictures and information from their countries. The evening concludes with a cultural display of talent in Fabiani Theatre. The event is open to the public and tickets can be purchased on site for a variety of ethnic food samples.
