Two Trine players were named to the All-Midwest Lacrosse Conference first-team; two others were second-team selections.
Goalkeeper Alex Gregg (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) and midfielder Blaine Stahley (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) made the first team.
Midfielder Dan Giorgis (Avon, Ohio/St. Edwards) and defender Chris Olney (Columbus, Ohio/Pickerington) made the MLC second-team.
Stahley scored 17 goals and five assists while averaging 1.83 points per game. Gregg faced 77 goals and made 113 stops while allowing 8.15 goals per game.
Giorgis netted 11 goals, handed out 10 assists and averaged 1.75 ppg. Olney picked up 24 ground balls, forced 10 turnovers and scored one goal.
Attacker Andrew Laycock (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron), Midfielder Eric Thompson (Cumberland, Maine/Greeley) and Long-Stick Midfielder San Swerdlow (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) were honorable mention selections.
Laycock scored 22 goals, recorded six assists and averaged 2.33 ppg. Thompson had 14 goals, four assists and averaged 1.50 ppg. Swerdlow scooped up 30 groundballs and caused 11 turnovers.
Trine finished the second 7-6 overall, 3-3 in the MLC.
Brendon Kesler (Liberty Township,Ohio/Lakota West) scored four goals and Andy Lauer (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) netted three more to power Trine to a 15-3 non-conference win over Indiana Tech Friday.
The Thunder finish the 2010 season 7-6, 3-3 in the Midwest Lacrosse League. It’s the first winning season in the three-year history of the program.
The Thunder scored six goals in the first quarter to take control early. Trine built its lead to 11-0 before the Warriors posted their first score in the fourth quarter.
Alex Gregg (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) recorded four first-half saves. Jeff Dombek surrended three goals and stopped 10 shots in the second half.
Trine fired 34 shots, scooped up 35 ground balls and converted on 31-of-38 clear attempts. Indiana Tech launched 26 shots, grabbed 31 ground balls and finished 20-of-38 on clear attempts.
ADRIAN, Mich. -
The Thunder couldn’t recover from a 7-0 first quarter deficit as Adrian handed Trine a 18-8 loss Wednesday. The Thunder are now 6-5, 2-3 in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference. Adrian is 9-3, 5-0 in the MLC.
Andrew Laycock (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron) scored four goals to lead Trine. Sean Hitz (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) dished out two assists. Dalton Madsen (Westminster, Colo./Northglen) scored two goals with an assist. Alex Gregg (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) stopped 12 shots.
Jeff Dombek (St. Louis, Mo./CBC) made three saves. The Thunder converted on 25-of-28 clears, gathered 25 ground balls, and had 21 shots. Adrian completed 22-of-26 clears, picked up 43 ground balls, and had 47 shots.
KENOSHA, Wisc. - Trine found itself in another last-minute nail-biter Saturday. This time the Thunder found the net in the final moments of the contest to force overtime, and ultimately post a 10-9 win.
Trine improves to 5-4, 2-2 Midwest Lacrosse Conference, while Carthage drops to 7-3, 2-2 MLC.
Trailing, 9-8 with 1:39 in regulation, the Thunder forced a turnover and converted into a game-tying goal by Blaine Stahley (Grand Rapids, Mich./E. Grand Rapids). Stahley finished off Carthage on Trine's second possession of overtime to seal the victory.
Eric Thompson (Cumberland, Maine/Greely School) added two scores. Andy Lauer (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) chipped in a goal and an assist while midfielders Ben Montalvo (Tecumseh, Mich./Tecumseh), Dan Giorgis (Avon, Ohio/St. Edwards) and Dalton Madsen (Westminster, Colo./Northglen) all added single goals for the Thunder.
Alex Gregg (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) was stellar in goal, making 14 saves. Trine plays again Sunday at 11 am at Milwaukee School of Engineering at 11am CST.
Wooster scored four goals in the second quarter and six more in the third to post a 13-3 win over the Trine Tuesday in NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse.
Blaine Stahley (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) scored two goals. Eric Thompson (Cumberland, Md./Greely School) added another for the Thunder who drop to 3-4. Thompson finished with six shots and four ground balls. Stahley had five shots and two ground balls. The Fighting Scots are now 6-4.
Alex Gregg (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) recorded seven saves in goal. He was relieved late by Jeff Dombek (St. Louis, Mo./CBC) who had two saves.
Wooster launched 35 shots, Trine 21. The Scots recorded 26 ground balls, while Trine tallied 25. The Thunder also committed 18 turnovers, Wooster had eight miscues.
The Thunder and Scots battled to a 1-1 tie after one period before Wooster went on a 11-1 run to start the fourth quarter.
Tuesday’s game was the final home game of the season for Trine. The Thunder are back in action Friday at Otterbein.
ALBION, Mich. - Trine University defeated Albion 18-6 Wednesday in the process; they recorded another first in the history of the program. This mile stone, the first ever win in the newly formed Midwest Lacrosse Conference.
The Thunder (3-3) netted six first quarter goals and added five in the second to cruise to an 18-6 win over conference rival Albion. It marks the first ever win in the newly formed MLC.
Trine shooters fired 52 shots - including 20 in the second period, while Albion mustered just 16 shots. The Thunder also recorded 19 ground balls and 30 of 32 clears. It took the Thunder just 21 seconds to score their first goal.

For the second straight game, a gutty Trine rally fell short against a conference rival. Saturday, it was a 8-7 blemish to Fontbonne.
Trine drops to 2-3, 0-2 in the Midwest Lacrosse League, Fontbonne is now 2-4, 1-1 in conference play.
Trine fell behind 5-0 in the first quarter and 6-1 at halftime. In the second half, Trine mounted a 6-1 rally to cut the lead to one goal in the final minutes, but couldn’t finish it off. With 2:16 to play in the contest, Thompson’s goal pulled Trine to 8-7, but Fontbonne shut down any further Thunder opportunities.
Andy Lauer (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southern) connected on two goals, while Eric Thompson (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) and Dan Giorgis (Avon, Ohio/St. Edwards) each added a goal and an assist. Alex Gregg (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) recorded 13 saves in goal for the Thunder.
Trine outshot Fontbonne 29-27, held a 39-24 advantage in ground balls and recovered more turnovers (18-16) then the Griffins.
A last-minute Thunder rally fell short, as Trine dropped a 7-6 decision Saturday to Mount Saint Joseph.
The Thunder made it interesting as Ben Montalvo (Tecumseh, Mich./Tecumseh) cut the lead to 7-6 with 1:18 left in the game, but the Trine comeback would fall short as MSJ goalie Zach Thomas snagged Dan Giorgis' shot as time expired. Trine drops to 2-2, 0-1 in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference.
Montalvo and Cory Childs (Savage, Minn./Prior Lake) each scored two goals for the Thunder. Alex Gregg (Zionsville, Ind./Nobleville) stopped 11 shots.
The Thunder held a 4-1 lead early in the second quarter when Andrew Laycock’s (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor) shot at the 11:31 mark found the net. The Lions rallied to take a 6-5 lead late in the third quarter. They added another goal with 3:23 remaining to make it 7-5.
Trine fired 35 shots, MSJ 33. The Thunder also nabbed 22 ground balls and converted 11-of-17 clear opportunities.
The Thunder face Fontbonne in another MLC contest Saturday at 11 a.m. at Shive Field.
GEORGETOWN, Texas - From the start it was billed as historic. Saturday’s Trine-Southwestern game was the first college lacrosse game ever played in the Lone Star State. Certainly for Cory Childs (Savage, Minn./Prior Lake) it was.
Childs impact was as big as Texas. The Thunder attackman blasted nine goals and dished out three assists to lead Trine to a 19-6 win. Trine is now 2-1.
Andrew Laycock (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor), Sean Hitz (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) and Eric Thompson (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) each chipped in with two goals. Hitz recorded three assists. Alex Gregg (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville)recorded seven saves. Jeff Dombek (St. Louis, Mo./CBC) had three saves.
For the game, the Thunder fired 48 shots, while the host Pirates had 22. Trine tallied 70 ground balls, 24 -of-27 clears, won 15-of-24 face-offs and scored on four -of-seven extra-man opportunities.
With the game tied at 2-2 late in the first period, Trine reeled off 10 straight goals to cruise to the win.
Trine is back in action Saturday hosting Midwest Lacrosse League rival Mount Saint Joseph at Shive Field at 1 p.m.

Kenyon fired four goals in the first quarter to take control early in a 11-3 win over Trine Tuesday in NCAA Division III men’s lacrosse. The Lords added three goals in the second quarter, one in the third and three more in the fourth quarter to cruise to the win.
Trine (0-1) was led by Alex Gregg (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) who stopped 17 shots and faced 42 shots. Andy Lauer (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) netted two goals. Eric Thompson (Cumberland, Maine/Greely School) had a goal. The Thunder fired 20 shots, including eight on goal.
Trine is back in action hosting Hendrix Sunday. The game gets under way at 11 a.m.
Continued winter winter has pushed back the start of the 2010 men's lacrosse season. The Thunder will now face Kenyon Tuesday at Shive Field. Action begins at 3 p.m.
Milwaukee, Wis - Junior attacker Cory Childs (Savage, Minn./Prior Lake) was named the Midwest Lacrosse Conference 2010 Preseason Player of the Year. Childs and Thunder midfielder Dan Giorgis (Avon, Ohio/St. Edwards) were also named MLC preseason all-conference players. The Thunder are projected to finish second in the league. Click here for more.

Trine University has named Vinnie Lang Head men’s lacrosse coach, the University announced today. Lang will take the reins of the third-year program immediately.
Lang comes to Trine after leading the Gilmour Academy lacrosse program in suburban Cleveland. Before leading Gilmour, Lang coached collegiately at Mercyhurst,
Wittenberg and Dayton, building an all-time record of 64-68.
Lang was also an assistant strength and conditioning coach, working with athletes
in all intercollegiate sports at Purdue University.
“Coach Lang is enthusiastic and demonstrates a personal and professional energy and work ethic that we believe characterizes Thunder athletics,” athletic director Jeff Posendek
said. “He has an impressive track record of leadership, discipline and success as a player, coach and as a person.”
Lang’s vision for Trine extends beyond wins and losses.
“I want to help make better lacrosse players and better people who will be prepared for success on and off the field and have some fun along the way,” Lang said. “Lacrosse is a special game. I want my guys to play with pride, win with integrity, and lose with honor. Most importantly, work hard, have fun and enjoy the ride.”
As a player at SUNY-Oswego and Purdue, Lang was consistently an all-conference player. He also played for the German National team for several seasons, including at the 1998 World Games and the 2001 European Championship.
Lang’s 1999 Mercyhurst squad finished 10th in NCAA Division II. At Dayton, the Flyers finished 13-1 in 2007 and advanced to the national semi-finals. He was named CCLA South Coach of the Year. Most recently he was the head lacrosse coach and physical fitness program director at Gilmour Academy.
He is a frequent instructor at camps and clinics nationwide, including at Notre Dame, Syracuse, the Unites States Naval Academy and Michigan.
Lang holds a bachelor’s degree in movement and sports science and a master’s in exercise physiology. He also served in the United States Marine Corps for 12 years and reached the rank of sergeant.He spent six months in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait serving in the first Gulf War.
Lang has a wife, Tere, and two sons, Nikko and Cole.
