Seven MIAA teams collide the MIAA Invitational at The Athletic-Recreation Center Saturday. Action gets underway at 11 a.m. The event serves as a preview for the upcoming outdoor season.

Trine men’s and women’s indoor track teams ushered in the new Athletic Recreation Center with wins over Defiance Friday night.
The women dispatched the Yellow Jackets 72-46. The men edged Defiance 69.5-59.5.
Miranda Illes (Athens, Mich./Athens) won the long jump, triple jump and 60-meter hurdles to lead Trine. Matt Scudder (Kalamazoo, Mich./Hackett Catholic Central) won the high jump and finished in a tie for first in the 60 hurdles.
Angela Lile (Walkerton, Ind./John Glenn) claimed first place in the shot put with a toss of 10.08 meters. Stephanie Hobbs (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) won the 200 meter posting a time of 29 seconds.
Chelsi Morey (Grand Blanc, Mich./Lake Fenton) won the 800 meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 27.40 seconds.
Trine’s women’s 4x400 team of Illes, Kayla Criswell (Valpariso, Ind./Portage), Morey and Annalisa Krug (Battle Creek, Mich./Pennfield) won with a time of 4:31.37.
The men’s 4x200 team of Kent Biller (Nappanee, Ind./NorthWood), Austin Hamsher (Nappanee, Ind./NorthWood), Brock Goodman (Goshen, ind./Goshen) and Dan Linder (DeWitt, Mich./Grand Ledge) won with a time 1:36.99.
The 4x400 team of Hamsher, Tyson Kaase (Syracuse, Ind./Wawasee ), Steve Weisenborn (Bowling Green, Ohio/Otsego) and Linder also placed first with a time of 3:34.48.
Jacob Lile (Seville, Ohio/Cloverleaf) was first in the long jump leaping 5.93 meters. Dustin Stutzman (Topeka, Ind.,/Westview) was first in the shot put with a throw of 13.39 meters. Adam Tatlock (Port Clinton, Ohio/Port Clinton) was first in the weight throw posting a throw of 12.26 meters.
The Thunder is back in action Friday hosting Trine Invitational II at the ARC, field events start at 4 p.m. running events start at 5 p.m.
MANCHESTER, Ind. - As a wrestler, Louis Posa just missed qualifying for the national tournament. He'll get another chance throwing the javelin.
Saturday, the Spartan Classic presented by Manchester College, Posa (Tecumseh, Mich./Clinton) heaved the javelin 59.20 meters (194.22 feet) to break a Thunder record and in the process earned a provisional entry to the Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 21 to 23 at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio. The previous best was 178 feet, eight inches.
The provisional qualifying mark for the event is 57.5 meters. He is currently ranked 15th in the nation. The automatic qualifying mark is 62.5.
"Louis had a huge throw at the MIAA Jamboree and fouled," Head Coach Doyle Houser said. "We knew he had it in him. I think he is capable of 63.0 meters or better."
All those achieving the Automatic Standard will be qualified for the NCAA Championships. If not enough qualify to fill fields, athletes will be added in order of performance, provided they have met the provisional standard.
Darin King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) was first in the 5000 meter posting a winning time of 15:26.75. Ken Biler (Nappanee, Ind./Northwood) was third in the 100 meter and 200 dash. Biler was also part of the Thunder’s second place relay team in the 4x100. Jacob Isabell (Osseo, Mich./Hillsdale) was fourth in the 800 meter.
Jacob Lile (Seville, Ohio/Cloverleaf) was fourth in the pole vault. Mike Tees and Jason Casteel (Wakarusa, Ind./Northwood) were third and fourth in the shot put. Logan Harvey (Hope, Ind./Hauser) was fourth in the discus.
Sara Tracey (Fremont, Ind./Fremont) was second in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Jessica Bean (Farmland, Ind./Monroe Central) was sixth in the 400 meter dash. Hannah Thomas fifth in the 1500 meter. Chelsi Morey (Grand Blanc, Mich./Lake Fenton) was fifth in the 3000. Ashley Runyon (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) was eighth in pole vault.
Citing inclement weather and travel conditions, Trine University will not participate in Ohio Northern indoor track meet today.
Russell Dill (Fort Wayne, Ind./North Side) captured the NCAA Division III national title in the 400 meter hurdles with a record-setting performance. Dill completed the race in 51.30 and set a new J.J. Keller Field and Tri-State school record. Ted McMillan from Augustana finished second with a time of 51.45.
Dill finished sixth in the finals of the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.55. Greenville College’s Jarod Renford was the national champion with a time of 14.22.
Dill’s performance propelled TSU to a 21st team finish with 13 points. Calvin College and Alma College each scored five team points and tied for 51st overall.
Dill becomes the first Tri-State University student-athlete to be named an NCAA Division III All-American.
