Golf Mgmt Student Allie Buttery Profile

Allie Buttery

Freshman golf management major

Allie Buttery loves the fact that Trine recognizes her individuality.

"Trine gives me the ability to express my interests in a variety of ways. Each path is paved specifically for each student because of the many options, whether major–related academics, sports, Greek life, campus activities or student organizations," she said.

That individuality includes her passion for golf, which extends to the very specific major she has chosen–golf management. "Trine reached beyond what is expected by offering an amazing golf management program, demonstrating a willingness to extend academic boundaries. No matter what is discussed or what class is taken, the information is always presented using a real–life situation. Whether it is in golf shop operations or club design and repair, each course makes me realize how vital this information will be in the real world once we are employed," she said.

Her professors treat her as a unique person, as well. "Not only do my professors know who I am, but they respect me enough as a student to set up times to meet with me and show real interest in my struggles as well as my accomplishments."

One professor in particular has impacted her learning tremendously. "I have been very fortunate that Professor Bill SanGiacomo has not only worked here for decades, but also created the program in which I am pursuing my degree. Not only does he stand out because of his warm and welcoming personality, but through the vast amount of knowledge that he shares in all of his classes. It′s not just textbook information, but knowledge coming from years of experience."

She values her Trine education. "The academics are almost one in a million, especially today, when the personal has been replaced with the impersonal. We have a connection with the professor and the opportunity for hands–on learning and individual attention that has been lost at larger universities."

She enjoys Trine′s rich campus life. "I have been fortunate to become involved in great activities and organizations, in addition to the Trine women′s golf team. This past semester I became associated with Christian Campus House and the national sorority Alpha Sigma Tau. I′ve met amazing people while exploring my options religiously, spiritually and socially. I enjoy a variety of activities and social events, and simply by putting myself out there, I have made great friendships and connections."
