Teaching is one of the most interesting things that I do as a mathematician. I find a lot of satisfaction in watching others grow their mathematical knowledge. I find that I continue to pick up new insights the longer that I teach, too.
I have a bachelor’s degree from Earlham College, and master's and doctoral degrees from Oregon State University. I spent some time working outside the country, and joined the Trine faculty in 2020.
I am a pure mathematician, specializing in number theory and combinatorics. Number theory is one of my favorite classes to teach, of course, but I think that all of the classes in the college curriculum can be fascinating to study. It helps to consider them under a historical perspective.
Outside of work, I like to spend my time writing music. I used to play in an orchestra, and sing in a choir. I even had a rock band for a little while. These days, I am most interested in electronic music and experimental composition.
