I was born in Jacksonville, Florida, into a Navy family.  I spent my childhood moving from Florida, to Virginia, the Philippines, back to Virginia, and finally settling in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  After graduating from Homestead High school, I earned my bachelor's degree from Indiana University in 2001 and met my wife Gretchen.  We traveled to Denver, Colorado, where we enjoyed hiking, skiing, running and camping.  Over the next several years, I worked in retail sales and progressed into a short career in advertising.  I soon recognized my desire to work in the service of others, and, in 2004, I joined the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman.

I was assigned to Field Medicine Service School (FMSS) at Camp Lejeune, NC, then as leading Petty Officer of 2nd Battalion Aid station, MCRD Parris Island, Beaufort, South Carolina.  I received orders to Aviation Medical Technician training in Pensacola, Florida, followed by Naval Aircrew Candidate School. I earned my Naval Aircrew Wings in November 2007, and was assigned to Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland, where I was designated as Search and Rescue Coordinator.  During this time, I was assigned as lead instructor for the Tactical Combat Casualty Course, CPR/BLS, and ACLS courses, as well as SAR instructor and evaluator.  I deployed with Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron HMH-461 to Djibouti, Africa, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2009.  While on deployment, I participated in multiple civilian medical aid programs, which enhanced my passion for the practice of medicine.

I left the Navy in 2010, and attended PA school at the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut, in 2012. I graduated with honors in 2014, and began my career as a PA-C in orthopedics. I worked for six years in orthopedic surgery at Orthopedics Northeast (ONE) here in Fort Wayne, specializing in hand and upper extremity. In 2019, I joined the Trine University physician assistant program team as an assistant professor. I am the chair of the Student Success Committee, serve on the faculty development committee, and am the faculty advisor for the PA program’s medical mission trip club.

In my spare time, I enjoy fly fishing, camping, reading, and am an avid runner, having completed multiple half and full marathons; most notably, the 2018 Boston Marathon. I am a track and cross country coach for St. John the Baptist Fort Wayne, and volunteer/fund raise with Neighborlink Fort Wayne.  I have four children — Henry, Ruby, Ellis, and August — who keep my wife, Gretchen and I very, very busy.  My favorite quote is from Steve Prefontaine, “To give anything less than your best, is to sacrifice the gift.”  GO NAVY.
