Trine housekeeper is finalist for national Janitor of the Year award

A Trine University housekeeper's can-do attitude and positive demeanor have propelled her to the finals in the Cintas Janitor of the year contest. Now, everyone is asked to vote in the national contest for Trine's candidate and bring the award to Angola and Trine.

Sherry AlbrightSherry Albright, a woman described by many as cheerful and helpful, was nominated by a fellow employee and has been selected as one of the top 10 nominees. Albright has been employed at Trine since Aug. 19, 2002, and is responsible for the cleaning and upkeep of Sponsel Administration Center, Campus Operations, Trine Guest House, Thunder Gear and the entry windows of Trine Welcome Center.

“Sherry is one of those people who will not let you have a bad day and is one of the institution’s strongest ambassadors,” said Earl D. Brooks II, Ph.D., Trine president. “She strives to make sure everything is clean and tidy and along the way Sherry makes a positive comment with most everyone she meets. Sherry connects with many students, often going above and beyond by helping in other ways, such as sewing on a button, and sharing positive thoughts with them, too.”

For Albright, it’s all a part of the career she finds greatly rewarding.

“I love my job. I’ve been at Trine for 12 years and I love the students – we have great students,” Albright said. “My favorite part is interacting with students and all the other people on campus.”

During her tenure, Albright has worked in nearly every building on Trine’s campus. She has especially fond memories of working in the former Stewart Hall, which also housed the dining hall. “In the morning I would see the students when they came in for breakfast. About three years ago, I bumped into a Trine graduate and he said ‘You always made my morning. You greeted me with a smile and started me off right.’,” Albright recalled.

Albright and her husband, Erich, reside in Orland and will celebrate 40 years of marriage Nov. 29. She is the mother of three children, Matt, John and Sarah. She has also been a member of the wait staff at Caruso’s Italian and American restaurant, Angola for 25 years and is a member of Lake Missionary Church, Angola. The recognition program is sponsored by Rubbermaid and Cintas (our local uniform and mat provider). The winning applicant will win $2,500 cash and the winning institution will win $2,500 worth of Rubbermaid products.
