Free Concert Series brings two concerts featuring Trine talent

Trine University’s musical ensembles will be performing this month as part of the Free Concert Series and everyone is invited to enjoy the performances.
The vocal ensembles will present a wide range of familiar songs at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 22.
Trine University’s Musical Theatre and Opera Ensemble, directed by Ashlee Bickley and accompanied on the piano by Laura Dallman, will perform selections from act one of Stephen Sondheim's “Sweeney Todd.” Each member of the ensemble will be prominently featured in favorite songs such as "Johanna," "Kiss Me" and "A Little Priest.”
Ensemble members include:
- Joshua Marty, a Clyde, Ohio senior majoring in chemical engineering;
- Tyler Marx, a Waterville, Ohio senior majoring in social studies education;
- Megan Miller, an Angola freshman majoring in music;
- Brandon Sarasin, a South Bend senior majoring in sport management; and
- Evan Warfel, a Waxhaw, N.C. junior majoring in computer engineering.
The Trine University Concert Choir, directed by Stephen Mangold, will then perform upbeat selections including “A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, Madrigal,” Sly and the Family Stone’s “Dance to the Music” and a medley titled “The Best of the Beach Boys.” Other songs to be presented include “A Peaceful Kyrie,” “Like an Eagle” and the Beatles’ “In My Life.”
The jazz ensembles, directed by Drew Parent, will perform at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 25.
The Trine Jazz Combo will open the show with songs such as “Yardbird Suite” and “Scrapple from the Apple” from Charlie Parker. The Jazz Band will follow with a number of selections including “Stormy Weather” by Arlen, arranged by Taylor and “When I Fall in Love” by Young, arranged by Skeffington.
Both concerts are part of the Free Concert Series at the T. Furth Center for Performing Arts, Ryan Concert Hall.
