Trine Scholarship Gala benefits scholarship fund
Enjoy a fun night out on Valentine’s Day and help students by attending the 12th annual Scholarship Gala, Trine University’s biggest fundraising event of the year.
Scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 14, the Scholarship Gala, formerly known as the Black and White Scholarship Gala, raises funds exclusively for scholarships. Ninety-eight percent of Trine University students receive financial aid/scholarships and this festive event serves as a primary funding source. Last year, more than $450,000 was raised.
New for this year are chances to bid on trips to the 2016 Super Bowl in San Francisco and the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, Ga. Also available for silent and live bidding are a plethora of other options from sports memorabilia to vacation destinations to fine jewelry.
“We at Trine University are grateful for the generous donations from community members and businesses,” said Earl D. Brooks II, Ph.D., Trine president. “This community engagement enables Trine to award scholarships to deserving students, many of whom are from this area.”
The evening event includes hors d'oeuvres, wine tasting, dinner and live music.
Guests will also have an opportunity to sponsor a $500 Books and Beyond Scholarship. MTI Foundation is challenging donors by offering a matching grant of $75,000, $25,000 more than last year. Alumnus Rick L. James, chair of Trine’s Board of Trustees, and president and chief executive officer of Metal Technologies, Inc., and his wife, Vicki L. James, offered a matching grant last year, too.
Books and Beyond Scholarships are provided to students who may use the money to purchase books, computers, school and lab supplies and more. Funds also help students pay modest account balances to enable them to register for the next semester.
Trine staff and faculty welcome community members to the Scholarship Gala. Tickets are $150 for couples and $75 for individuals, a great option for celebrating Valentine’s Day.
