ESL students get oriented to campus

Trine University international students, starting second from left, Xiaoling Liao from China, Natnael Gebreab from Ethiopia and Nasir Almutlaq from Saudi Arabia take part in an English as a Second Language orientation session with Jo Milliken, international academic specialist, on Thursday, Jan. 19. During the first week of classes, staff works to help ESL students adjust to living in a new country, learn about U.S. culture and get used to hearing American English spoken at regular speed, as well as learning their way around Trine and the services it offers. Milliken went over what instructors expect of students and the importance of the syllabus, and gave the students time management tips. Gebreab is new to Trine this semester; Liao and Almutlaq attended the session as a refresher.
