USA men’s rugby 7s finishes 6th at Olympics
The USA men’s rugby 7s team, which includes Trine University alumnus Joe Schroeder, finished sixth at the Tokyo Olympics after losing 28-7 Wednesday in the fifth-place game to South Africa.
It was the team’s second loss to South Africa, which defeated the USA 17-12 in pool play. That match included Schroeder’s only score of the Olympic games.
The USA had advanced to the fifth-place game by defeating Canada 21-14 on the last play of their match.
Fiji won the men’s rugby 7s Olympic gold medal with a 27-12 victory over New Zealand.
The USA looks to get back to action Sept. 18-19, when the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series is scheduled to kick off in Canada.
